About the event
Open Seder Passover
This year, Beseder Gallery is opening the Seder Passover to everyone for the first time - for believers and secularists, Jews and non-Jews, adults and children. It is not about reconstructing a tradition or “getting to know each other from the outside,” but about experiencing a ritual together, in which everyone can become a participant, not a spectator.
Passover is an event driven by storytelling.
It is not a lecture or a foreign memory. It is a living act that takes place here and now - at the table, among voices, questions, pauses and impatience. We are setting out on a journey.
This evening, there are no external observers at the table. Each participant in the event seems to be coming out of Egypt himself - from tightness, habit, lack of freedom. In his own way, at his own pace, with his own questions. We are walking the same path, we encounter common obstacles and trials, but everyone experiences them differently.
Passover is a holiday of freedom. Not loud and abstract, but internal. It is organized as a journey: from bitterness to hope, from silence to words, from solitary knowledge to shared storytelling.
It is no coincidence that this evening begins with children's questions.
Because without a question there is no attempt to find an answer.
The search for an answer gives rise to dialogue.
Without dialogue, there is no feeling of "togetherness".
And without this feeling, there is no shared memory.
The Seder will be led by the charismatic Prague rabbi David Maxa, leader of the progressive Jewish community of Etch Chayim. His style - warm, attentive and open - allows the tradition to sound understandable and at the same time, without losing depth.
The evening will combine a traditional Seder and a festive dinner, games and workshops for children, conversations for adults and lively sharing at one table. The story of the Exodus will unfold not only in the text, but also in the taste of matzoh, in gestures, in the pauses between words.
The Seder will take place in Czech, English and Russian.
Each participant will receive a Haggadah - a book that records the Seder program and the story of the Exodus - in the language of their choice.
Passover is not accelerated or "delayed".
Passover is experienced - together.
